Our Mission
We are just a group of pool players who feel that Lincoln has room for a pool and darts emporium, where league and tournament
players can flourish and expand their game.
Our History
In August of 2007, a call went out to anyone interested in starting a new pool room in Lincoln.
Response was overwhelmingly positive. Lots of people were at least looking for a new place to play. A company,
which would become Midtown Drifters, Inc, began to be formed.
The first two people to sign on were Nils McConnell
and Brad Harris. Nils and Brad used to play together on a team called the Midtown Drifters, hence the company name.
Dan Thompson soon called and said he wanted in. When the trio looked for someone with food handling experience, Gene
Flynn was added. The corporation was in place.
Now they needed to find a location. This was no
easy task! They looked at places all over town. Obstacles cropped up - this place was too remote, that place couldn't
get a liquor license, those places needed too much remodeling. Finally they found a good location - the existing Pit
Crew at 33rd and Cornhusker. Negotiations went back and forth, as negotiations will, until a deal was hammered out that
is beneficial to all involved. Now the work begins!
Who We Are
The owners of Drifters are Gene Flynn, Brad Harris, Nils McConnell and Dan Thompson. Gene Flynn will be the on-site
manager.
Gene is a well-known, Master pool player. He played for years on such teams as the
Suite 9 "Blues" and counts City and Midwest tournament wins among his many pool accomplishments. A certified
referee, Geno has been instrumental in many positive changes to region tournaments in recent years. Brad Harris
is also a Master pool player. A fierce competitor, Brad topped hundreds of competitors to win a Midwest singles title.
His consistent play over the years is well respected.
Nils McConnell is a certified referee who has officiated
finals matches at the Valley International Tournament. Also a Master player, Nils is one of the coaches of the Junior
Program in Lincoln. He was recently inducted into the Midwest Hall of Fame. Many years ago, Nils was also on several
high performing dart teams.
Dan Thompson counts many team titles to his credit. The fourth Master player
on the ownership team has trophies at home from more than 20 championships.
